Raleigh, N.C. — A bus driver for the Wake County Public School System has resigned after he was cited for DWI charge, district spokeswoman Lisa Luten said Tuesday.
Police on Saturday arrested Donnie Lee Ballentine, 63, of 1406 Creech Road, Garner, after he admitted to police that he hit a car on East Martin Street in Raleigh and then left the scene.
According to arrest records, Ballentine registered a 0.16 on an alcohol breath test. Anything above 0.08 is illegal in North Carolina.
In addition to a charge of driving while impaired, he faces a charge of hit-and-run leaving a scene with property damage.
The school system suspended Ballentine on Monday.
