CARY, N.C. — After filling one seat last week, the Wake County Board of Education is now looking to replace former member Debra Goldman.

The Wake County Public School System announced Monday that the school board is accepting letters of interest from those wishing to serve out the remainder of Goldman's term, which expires in November, as the District 9 representative, who serves western Wake County, including Cary.

Interested applicants must submit a letter, no longer than five pages, a résumé and three letters of recommendation by Feb. 22 to be considered.

Application materials can either be sent via email to district9vacancy@wcpss.net or be mailed to District 9 Board of Education Vacancy, Wake County Board of Education, Crossroads 1, 5625 Dillard Drive, Cary, N.C., 27518.

Goldman announced Feb. 3 that she was leaving the board to serve as executive director for a Wilkes County-based nonprofit.

Her resignation was the second in the past several months.

In December, Chris Malone resigned his District 1 seat after he was elected to the state House of Representatives.

Last week, the board appointed Thomas Benton, of Zebulon, to serve out the remainder of Malone's term, which also expires in November.
