Wake school board ballot takes shape

Posted July 15, 2013

Deborah Prickett , Wake County Board of Education

Four candidates have tossed their hats into the ring for three out of the four seats up for election on the Wake County school board. On Oct. 8, voters will decide on representatives for Districts 1, 2, 7 and 9.

In District 7, Deborah Prickett, the Republican incumbent, will be running against newcomer Zora Felton.

Incumbent Democrat Tom Benton will be on the ballot for District 1. So far, no challenger has filed.

As of July 9, the incumbents for Districts 9 and 2 have yet to file.

Republican Bill Fletcher, who represents District 9, confirmed he plans to run. His challenger for that seat will be Nancy Caggia, a Republican who is running on a non-partisan platform. Caggia filed Monday morning.

As of Tuesday morning, no one has filed to run for District 2, which includes Garner and Fuquay-Varina.

Seriously, WRAL? Where do you get your information? You updated the story but still got it wrong! There is a candidate who has filed in district 2 - Monika Hostler. She filed 4 days ago. What gives?

@whatelseisnew you seem very excited about a small group of politicians making huge sweeping changes in North Carolina, why should the school board be any different?

This story was just posted this morning. Why is it so inaccurate and incomplete?

I will be voting against Ms. P. is for sure. Sorry for the abbreviation but WRAL won't let me post her name because it may be deemed inappropriate.

I see 5 people (and no Bill Fletcher) on the official list from the BOE.

"No more bond money until the school makes every school year round. Doesnt make good financial sense to have empty schools for 2 months and then spend a billion dollars to build more. Use what you have before you ask for more. Stop the small child attitude." superman

It is worse than that! The schools are (gasp) empty on Saturday and Sunday. Fill 'em up!

Also, they are empty at night! No more money for new schools until they are utilized ALL the time.

I'm confused. Aren't the districts changing? Is this voting for the new districts reps? What a nightmare.
