Wake report cards delayed due to software glitch

Posted October 30, 2013

Wake County Public School System

— First-quarter report cards for most Wake County public school students will be delayed a week because of computer problems, district officials said Wednesday.

Traditional-calendar students who were supposed to get report cards on Monday instead will receive them Nov. 12.

In a letter to parents, officials said an “unanticipated software outage” in the statewide computer system is to blame for the delay, preventing teachers from entering grades and keeping schools from printing report cards.

The software provider has been working on a fix.

Other districts that use the software have not reported plans to delay report cards.

WesternWake, everyone knows you grab every opportunity you can to throw WCPSS under the bus. You might get your facts straight first. WCPSS did not make the decision to go to PowerSchool. That decision was made by DPI alone. That fact should be clear when you know that every LEA and charter school in NC is using the system.

HonestyFirst - No district or school in NC was using PowerSchool in April of this year. The systems were still using NC Wise at that time. PowerSchool was not even available for login by any school until after July 1.

Seems as though there are a lot of software problems out there these days, eh?

Please, no. Say it's not true.

If you check up on your children you would know what is going in school! A good parent wouldnt even need a report card. After they been going to school a few years you know what kind of work they are doing.

Isn't this just for the elementary kids anyway? Middle school and high school kids were already using the system.

Report cards have been delayed SEVERAL WEEKS for some year round kids. My son should have received his report card September 27 and we still don't have it. Why don't you investigate that and report on it.

If this is due to the use of PowerSchool that was mandated by DPI I am not surprised. This software is horrible and has caused problems all over the state. It was not tested nor was it introduced in parallel with the system used last year. It was mandated to be used on April 30 of 2013 during a school year. Why has there not been an investigation of this by WRAL or anyone yet. Someone at DPI needs to step up.

Anyone that thinks nc wise was a good system should be sent to in school suspension… good riddance and the day they get rid of IBM's Lotus Notes that will also be a good day.

Wayne County delayed their report cards by a week also due to some problems with the same system. You would think they had worked out the glitches, kind of like you would have thought obamacare had their glitches worked out. Hmmm, wonder if it is the same people working on both??
