— Regular, annual, full-volume tests of the alert sirens at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant begin Tuesday and will run Tuesdays through Thursdays through April 21.

Residents living within 10 miles of the plant could hear a brief siren blast between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on those days, plant officials said.

The plant tests the 83 sirens on a rolling basis as annual maintenance is completed on each.

Try growing up in Tornado Alley. They tested then on the first Wednesday of every month. We heard them a whole lot more frequently then that...

I wonder how many people think these things are an actual emergency and call 911 on an annual basis

Hopefully one would be awake by 7am on those days. Otherwise, wear earmuffs.
