— A Wake County man bicycling home from church Tuesday night was hit by a pickup and killed in Willow Spring, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Dusty Winds Court near Mount Pleasant Church Road, authorities said.

Lee William Morel, 33, died at WakeMed. The pickup driver, William Denton, 34, of Apex, wasn't hurt.

Morel was volunteering at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, helping prepare for a barbeque later this week, and was a few houses away from his home when he was hit, authorities said.

Family members said he was on his bike because he had been having car trouble recently.

The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.

According to the man's parents, he always wore a reflective vest and helmet and had lights on his bike. Don't know that he had the items on, last night but it was a very dark, misty, night on an unlit and narrow rural road. The last thing the driver of the truck likely expected to see was someone on a bicycle. A terrible tragedy for all involved.

RIP One thing is for sure, he was doing something good for his Church. Which means before he passed, we know he was prayed up.

Excuse me WRAL, but the name of the town is Willow Spring (there is no S at the end of Spring). So sad to hear about this, but my question is this, did the man have a light on his bike, was he wearing reflective clothing? I know this road and at 7pm it is dark and not very well lit. So sorry to hear about this tragedy, but cyclists need to be aware of the dangers of riding at night.
