TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — An inmate from Wake County escaped Wednesday from an inmate crew that was building an addition to Alexander Correctional Institution in western North Carolina.

Xavier Shaw, 45, was serving a six-year sentence for kidnapping and several counts of common law robbery. His prison term was scheduled to end Aug. 30, but he has charges pending in Wake County in a January bank robbery.

Shaw was released from prison on Dec. 28 after serving a little more than two years of his sentence. A month later, he was charged with robbing a BB&T on Brier Creek Parkway.

Anyone who has seen Shaw or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement or Alexander Correctional Institution at 828-632-1331.
