Wake Forest Votes Against Golf Course Purchase

Posted February 20, 2008

— The Town Council on Tuesday rejected a proposal to buy the Wake Forest Golf Club, which is at the center of a legal dispute between the course owner and surrounding homeowners.

Owner Joe Young tried to sell the course two years ago to developers for a subdivision, but neighbors fought the move, saying they built their homes to be next to a golf course and that town planning documents required the land to remain a golf course.

Young offered to sell the land to the town to operate as a municipal course, but the council voted down the idea as too costly.

The legal battle could wind up before a Superior Court judge in the coming weeks.

When you buy a home based on neighboring property that someone else owns you are making a very poor decision.

The neighbor can do what he wants to with his land without your approval.

Sounds like these expensive homes on the golf course are going to have different neighbors soon.

I agree. They want the town to come up with tax $$$$$$$ for their benefit. If the course could make a profit it would not be for sale. So let the town buy it and lose $$ for years. The nerve of those ppl really riles me.

Why doesn't the HOA buy the land and make it a private course for the neighborhood? If they are not willing to buy it - looks like it up for sale to whomever for whatever!
