Wake Forest, N.C. — A substitute teacher who worked at Wake Forest's Jones Dairy Elementary School was arrested Friday and charged with indecent liberties with a child.
Brian Holt Self, 49, of 301 Black Swan Way, is accused of taking advantage of three victims under the age of 16.
Sharon Ahrens' six-year-old daughter attends Jones Dairy Elementary. She said parents first heard of the incident through a recorded message from the principal.
"I was actually shocked when I received the phone call from the principal letting us know what happened," Ahrens said.
According to Ahrens, the principal called her about an incident involving her daughter. "The teacher had asked her to get up out of her seat so that he could sit there and then he asked her to sit in his lap," she explained.
Ahrens said the principal went on to explain that were more serious allegations against the substitute.
"I believe that he told me that there were eight or nine students involved and that with two or three of them that it had gone further than sitting on the lap," she said.
According to authorities one incident allegedly happened July 15 and the other two on July 17. According to the school system, Self resigned July 19.
"It's a disappointment that there are people like that in your child's school. It's sad that there are people like that," Ahrens said.
Self was being held on secured bond of $150,000. His first court appearance was set for Monday at 9 a.m.
