— A substitute teacher who worked at Wake Forest's Jones Dairy Elementary School was arrested Friday and charged with indecent liberties with a child.

Brian Holt Self, 49, of 301 Black Swan Way, is accused of taking advantage of three victims under the age of 16.

Sharon Ahrens' six-year-old daughter attends Jones Dairy Elementary. She said parents first heard of the incident through a recorded message from the principal.

"I was actually shocked when I received the phone call from the principal letting us know what happened," Ahrens said.

According to Ahrens, the principal called her about an incident involving her daughter. "The teacher had asked her to get up out of her seat so that he could sit there and then he asked her to sit in his lap," she explained.

Ahrens said the principal went on to explain that were more serious allegations against the substitute.

"I believe that he told me that there were eight or nine students involved and that with two or three of them that it had gone further than sitting on the lap," she said.

According to authorities one incident allegedly happened July 15 and the other two on July 17. According to the school system, Self resigned July 19.

"It's a disappointment that there are people like that in your child's school. It's sad that there are people like that," Ahrens said.

Self was being held on secured bond of $150,000. His first court appearance was set for Monday at 9 a.m.

It doesn't do a lot of good to post here and not be active in bringing about change. This country , this state has been warped by greed. We need to bring down the greedy. Put people in places of authority that are patriots instead of Opportunistas !!! I don't have a lot of hope for this country and fear for the future of the young people.

@zenonx6 - Ditto, but, I think its about time we elect a government that is interested in leading and representing the public. All current political parties included. At this juncture, I would not trust either side of the political spectrum to do something about anything

"It's about time our pathetic school board do something about all the hiring of pedophiles in Wake County"- how do you stop someone without a record? I'm guessing- but I'm willing to bet I'm right- that when hired, they did a background check and nothing showed up. Until they actually DO something, they are just another employee. Can't blame the school board for this one- you can blame LOTS on them to be honest, but this isn't one of them.

why bother with a trial just convict him now(sarcasm). Wait for all the facts, maybe guilty maybe not. Parents are a little quick to volunteer information. Why would you want to talk to the media? The children did NOTHING wrong but putting your dirty laundry out in public that is just silly.

I feel sorry for the kids that may have been exploited and the family that does not want this attention.

This is the umpteenth case like this in the WCPSS. It's about time our pathetic school board do something about all the hiring of pedophiles in Wake County.

But, unfortunately, our school board is only concerned with their political agendas.

...btw, same on the guns and mental thing. the NRA has everybody so distracted by the terms background checks and that we need to do more to the mental health system. What can be done? Is every depressed or disenfranched kid going ask his mom or dad to go to the local mental health dept. Are parents going to put their kids in such a system. Doubtful.
