— The town's first dog park has opened on North White Street.

The two-acre Flaherty Dog Park is next to the Flaherty Park baseball and softball fields. It is free and open daily from dawn until dusk.

The park includes a paved entrance and two exercise areas. Each of the fenced areas -- one is for small dogs, and the other is for larger dogs -- includes grass cover, picnic tables, shade trees, waste stations and a water fountain for both canines and their keepers.

Does it have a dog water purification system?

Though I'm a dog owner, I do not agree with using tax money to pay for a dog park. The park will provide services that only a minority of all taxpayers will use.

    >>I could not agree more.What's next?Free boarding.

Z Man, I'm probably one of the few people in the city of Raleigh who actually pays his dog license fee. I'm not sure where all the money goes to support, but I hope part of it goes to maintain the Raleigh parks. If future parks are built with having a dog area in mind, the cost wouldn't be that much more expensive.

When you see elderly people & people with disabilities taking their dogs to the dog park, and seeing how much joy the dogs can bring & having people let their dogs play freely that wouldn't otherwise had an opportunity to do so, I say it's my tax dollars well spent.

I'm glad they have a dog park. Now they need to focus money on the sports part of the parks and rec in Wake Forest. I hear there is not enough places to play with all the people that have moved there, and the equipment is not in good shape. Either raise the fees or put more of the money into the sports part instead of the parks. I also don't think they have a basketball league for adults, which would be nice.

Good thing is dogs will learn social behavior, bad thing is there are some that have no idea how to train a dog so there will be aggressive dogs and there will be dogs spreading disease.
Make sure shots are all in order.

    Lone Voice in the Wilderness:

I have two beagles! They have such a good disposition. I wish they'd open more dog parks too, across the county.

    :-)

I hope they open more dog parks across the county. I take my beagle to one, and he absolutely loves it. It's great exercise for him.

Dandy. My 3 hounds will love it. Maybe they can torment some Heritage poodles.
