— Wake Forest officials say a heavy rainstorm after fireworks were set up caused a technical problem during the city's July 3rd celebration.

In an email to citizens Monday, the Fourth of July Committee said they decided to continue on with the celebration despite rain based on a statement from S&W Productions earlier in the week that they could shoot the fireworks in the rain (but not a thunderstorm) and knowing that the musical act for the evening, Band of Oz, was booked up the rest of the week.

Officials said they were told this weekend the reason for the abbreviated fireworks display and wanted to let the public know.

They also noted that the skydivers, who have performed in previous years, were on stand-by but were unable to perform due to the weather. Their aircraft was unable to make it to the Franklin County airport in time for the show. They should be back next year.
