Wake Forest, N.C. — A Wake Forest insurance agent is accused of creating fake insurance policies so he could collect more than $16,000 in commissions.
Aaron Collier Guetterman, 33, of the 1300 block of Haltwhistle Street, was charged Monday with felony embezzlement by an insurance agent and eight counts of felony financial identity theft, according to the North Carolina Department of Insurance.
Investigators said Gutterman, while acting as an agent for Monumental Life Insurance Co., created the bogus policies using the Social Security numbers of two dozen people. The polices were executed between July 2013 and February 2014.
Gutterman was being held under a $10,000 bond.
Insurance officials said an estimated 10 cents of every dollar paid in premiums goes toward the payment of fraudulent claims. To report suspected fraud, call the department at 919-807-6840 or visit its website. Callers may remain anonymous.
