DURHAM, N.C. — Durham school leaders released snow make up dates on Monday that spare weekends and spring break for students, but extends the school year by two days.

Traditional calendar makeup days will take place on the following dates:

  • March 11, originally an early release day
  • March 27, originally a teacher work day
  • April 29, originally an early release day
  • June 10 and 11 – the last day of school was June 9

Students on a year-round calendar will make up snow days on March 11 and April 29, which were originally early release days, and March 23-27, which was an intercession week.

City of Medicine Academy students will be in school March 16, April 29 (full school day) and May 26-28.

Early College High School students will be in school April 6, April 29 (full school day) and May 26-28.

Middle College High School students will be in school March 9-10, April 6 and May 26-27.

Wake County school leaders previously announced that students will attend a full day of school on March 6 and April 17, both of which were previously early-release days, to make up snow days from Feb. 17-20. The district have not decided on makeup dates from last week's snowstorms.

"We were able to avoid additional make-up days by using the hours that students already are scheduled to attend above the state's required minimum of 1,025 hours," the district said. "Please note that the changes restore a five-day spring break for students on the traditional calendar by once again making March 23 a teacher workday. Due to state laws governing calendar flexibility, these changes leave spring break vulnerable if further cancelations are required."

Students in Johnston County will make up snow days on March 11 (full school day) and 27, April 9-10 and 29 (full school day), and June 11.
