Wake deputies investigating extortion case involving home-schooled students

According to a search warrant returned Wednesday, a victim went to authorities in June, saying she received from an unknown email address a message with a "fake conversation" saying she had agreed to have sex with a 16-year-old.

"The email said if the victim did not send them another nude picture, they would send the conversation to all her contacts," the warrant says. "This same conversation has been sent to several people via email and Facebook."

All of the messages were sent to a group of five home-schooled students and their family members, the warrant continues. 

Investigators used the warrant to obtain access to several pieces of electronic equipment, including a desktop computer, two laptops, a video camera, a digital camera, three cellphones and 11 discs.

It wasn't immediately clear if anyone has been charged in the case. The warrant does not list a suspect.

The incident should be a lesson to all teenagers, Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

“To the teenagers that's listening to this, when you get something like this, even though you've done something that's wrong, you can't correct a wrong with another wrong,” he said. “And so, you need to say hey, this is going on, because if you give in, and comply with the request, then you got a whole lot more problems.”
