RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County employees are working through the weekend to help process 3,000 backlogged food stamp applications associated with the NC Fast program.

More than 110 permanent staff members and 40 temporary staff members worked Saturday and Sunday to complete the applications by the deadline.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has given the North Carolina Department of Heath and Human Services until Monday, Feb. 10 to process the backlogged cases. If the deadline is not met the USDA said the program will lose its federal funding.

Clients are encouraged to respond to calls and letters as quickly as possible.
