Wake County woman vows not to live in fear after robbery

Bettie Cox returned home after a trip to the grocery store and bank to find a man waiting for her.

“When I got home, he was sitting across the street, right in front of my house,” Cox said. “I know he liked to scare me to death, and I will never get over it.”

Cox says by the time she parked her own car, the man was at her door with a gun in his hand.

“He said, ‘Don’t worry about the money, hand me your bag,’” Cox said.

Cox said the man arrived in a small brown car and believes another person may have been in the car as well.

According to Cox, the suspect was wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt that covered his face.

Cox said she wasn’t worried by the couple hundred dollars, credit card or identification stolen from her purse, but she is bothered by the items she cannot replace.

“I had pictures in there, one with my mother and daddy together,” Cox said. “It was the only picture I had of them together.”

She also had another photo of the first time her son lifted his head.

“They were just things in there that I treasured,” Cox said.
