RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County School Board voted Tuesday to give Superintendent Del Burns a one-year contract extension and a raise.

Burns received a 4 percent pay increase that brings his annual base salary to $273,000, according to Bill Poston, spokesman for the school system.

“The school board is appreciative of Dr. Burns’ leadership in aligning people and resources in seeking to reach our goal of helping all Wake County students graduate from high school on time and prepared for the future,” board chair Rosa Gill said in a press release.

Burns has served two years as superintendent of the Wake County Public School System.

Ron Margiotta was the only board member to vote against the extension.
