— The Wake County School Board voted Tuesday to give Superintendent Del Burns a one-year contract extension and a raise.

Burns received a 4 percent pay increase that brings his annual base salary to $273,000, according to Bill Poston, spokesman for the school system.

“The school board is appreciative of Dr. Burns’ leadership in aligning people and resources in seeking to reach our goal of helping all Wake County students graduate from high school on time and prepared for the future,” board chair Rosa Gill said in a press release.

Burns has served two years as superintendent of the Wake County Public School System.

Ron Margiotta was the only board member to vote against the extension.

    Additionally,

This goes to show the arrogance of the school board in that they come to the well asking for more money, only to not use it in the required areas. Then they want a bond to cover the difference.

I think if you are POed about this - I think you need to run for school board. I know I have had enough.

Besides, as long as a Superintendent is Mediocre, slap the face of the communities that the schools are in, and drag down the scores of all the schools via their socio-economic progressive busing platform - then blame the fedral government for their problems -

    Why should they change?

I am not surprised. It is the school boards credo to give all of the students in the school a poor education but they will be diverse, happy and unique individuals when they get out.

No wonder they are like that woman on the Progressive Ads - good customer service skills but is more happy about her name tag than trying to figure how much a person can save on their insurance.

How dare Burns be given a 4% raise and how dare he accept it when employees in his school system have gotten soooooo much less. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer!

I think WRAL should interview Del Burns to see exactly how he feels he deserves this raise and if he realizes what a disappointment he is to the public

It was reported today on the 12:00 news that his salary increase would take him to a salary of $313,000. This is an enormous amount of money for a County Employee. It ceretainly appears, that the county is behind in building schools, and Teachers are NOT getting the raises they deserve for the job that they do, but this man deligates his authority, and makes 313,000 a year. And they want to hit is for another bond this fall. NO, absoutly NO, because this money is not going to our children, it is going to pay these inept school officials an enormous amount of money that they do not deserve. The teachers deserve a 5% increase, because they are the ones who hold our futures in their hands, because they are teaching them every day. Where would you find out how much each school board member makes, I would love to know, and have a right to know.

Hmmmm....ABC teacher bonuses get slashed and he gets a 4% raise.....very interesting.

One of the many wrong choices and decisions that WCPSS has done.

And why 4%??? Why not 2.75% like all other state employees? That's what administration received!

I agree that his extension should have been put to a taxpayer vote. We need an outside person to serve as Superintendent so that HOPEFULLY some of the wrongs can be righted!

"Del gets a raise and the teachers get fleeced."

The teachers raises were reinstated, but I do not know to what degree.

    God bless.

Del gets a raise and the teachers get fleeced. Just another day in Wake County with idiots in charge of education!

Guess what Del, next year's bond will FAIL because of you and you can then give your raise back to help offset the money YOU ARE NOT GETTING FORM US! The EDUCATED voters!

If you're not in the "educated voters" group,
    DON'T VOTE!
