RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County paused Wednesday to honor law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty, as part of national Peace Officers Memorial Week.

Hundreds gathered at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh to pay tribute to 19 fallen officers from Raleigh, Wake County, Cary, Morrisville, Wake Forest and the state Highway Patrol.

Raleigh police Officer Adam W. Young, who was shot in February during a standoff with a suicidal man, delivered the keynote speech.
