RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff's Office is looking for the person who killed a husband and wife, orphaning their two children.

Sheriff Donnie Harrison said Jose Samual Flores Mendoza and Maria Saravia Mendoza, both 34, were shot at their home at 708 Colonial Drive, in a part of the county near Garner.

The Mendozas both worked at Golden Corral in south Raleigh and were the parents of two children. The youngest, a 3-year-old boy, was home at the time of the attack. Their 12-year-old was not present. Both were being cared for Saturday by other family members.

Harrison said his investigators did not think either of the Mendozas was responsible for the shooting, and that authorities were looking for the person who did.

"It's a tough one, but we are putting the pieces together," Harrison said.

"It's very important that if somebody happened to be passing by here anytime and saw something that didn't look right, it may be the piece of the puzzle that we're looking for," he said.
