Wake County adding more cameras to school buses to curb discipline problems
Wake County schools will add cameras to 80 district buses this week in an attempt to curb he-said-she-said arguments stemming from incidents on buses.
Posted — UpdatedThe cameras seek to answer one of the biggest complaints from bus drivers: student discipline. School officials hope the cameras will provide clearer information when a problem arises on the bus.
The district began installing the cameras back in the fall of 2015. So far, about 100 of the district's 650 buses are outfitted with the equipment.
Officials said the cameras record continuously and allow drivers to hit a button to mark portions of the tape for review. While officials said it won't wipe out problems completely, it can help clarify exactly what happened.
The district hopes to have cameras on all its buses by the end of June.
Officials did not say how much the cameras and installation cost.
