— The debate over county dollars is ready to begin.

Wake County Commissioners will hold two public hearings Monday on the County Manager's Budget Proposal.

The first is at 2 p.m. at the Wake County Courthouse in Room 700. The second is at 7 p.m. at the Wake County Office Park in the Commons Building.

One of the most contentious issues is the request from Wake County Public Schools. They are asking for $10 million more than the county manager is proposing.

We have already given them quite enough for these schools, and that is all I plan to give. If the nearly $1 billion dollars from last year was not enough, then we need to look at what is wasting so much money at these schools. All they need are teachers, books, pencils, desks and notebooks. Stop outfitting these schools to be high-tech multimedia centers. Public schools should be about traditional education... not about wireless laptops and other luxuries that these students do not need. The buck stops here.
