NEW HILL, N.C. — Residents near the Harris Nuclear Plant in New Hill may hear sirens Tuesday morning as the facility undergoes a notification test.

Officials with Duke Energy said 83 alert sirens within 10 miles of plant will be tested at full volume for about three minutes, sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The test, which is conducted in cooperation with state and county authorities, is done annually. Silent tests are done every two weeks, and short-duration tests are every three months.

The test will not affect local broadcasting stations.

New Hill is about 20 miles southwest of Raleigh.
