— A Wake County bail bondsman was charged with embezzlement after investigators said Friday that he pocketed $6,000 from a bond.

Dempsey Akiva Cox, 40, of 4157 Elkton Drive, Raleigh, is charged with felony embezzlement in connection with the July 2012 incident. State Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said Cox collected a $10,000 collateral on a bond that was later forfeited. Instead of paying the entire amount, he allegedly kept $6,000.

Cox turned himself in to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday and was held on a $10,000 secured bond. He has a court appearance Nov. 5
