Biden visiting Chapel Hill to help Hagan

Posted November 13, 2013

— Vice President Joe Biden has rescheduled his visit to North Carolina for later this week to raise money in part to help Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan's re-election bid.

A spokeswoman for the vice president confirmed Wednesday that Biden would be in Chapel Hill on Friday. Biden's office released no additional information.

A Hagan spokeswoman said proceeds will go to a committee for Hagan, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the state Democratic Party She referred other questions to the vice president's office.

Biden postponed a fundraising visit in Durham last month.

At least four Republicans are vying for the nomination to face Hagan next fall: state House Speaker Thom Tillis, outgoing State Baptist Convention President Rev. Mark Harris, Cary obstetrician Greg Brannon and Wilkesboro nurse Heather Grant.

A poor little K.Hag running scared.

What a perfect summation that she and Biden were holed up in Chapel Hill. Thats the only part of NC she is interested in listening to.

Even though she's too much of a Blue Dog Democrat at times, Kay Hagen still votes closer to the values of North Carolinians than any of the Republicon candidates ever would. I hope the national party bring Biden, Obama, and everyone else with star power here to stump for her reelection!

Well, unfortunately I voted for Kay. She talked a good line but it was mostly because the other candidate was an even poorer choice. However next time I'll vote AGAINST her, she had her chance and decided to play party politics instead of the promises she made in her campaign.

"And pray tell, in your infinite wisdom, what do I at age 67 need with maternity insurance, or birth control? Kinda sorta past that time there friend." josephlawrence

    So, you're getting socialized medicare?

    You're welcome.- taxpayer

They'll be able to get insurance with the rest of the population (i.e. taxpayers) covering the costs- jospehlawrence43

Well, not quite... in fact the subsidy money comes 50% from medicare, 25% from drug and device companies... and only 25% from direct taxation- and even THEN only on those making over $250000 a year.

what do I at age 67 need with maternity insurance?- jospehlawrence43

The same thing people without kids need with good schools- which they ALSO have to pay for despite not directly using them.

Educated kids are a public good that EVERYONE pays for.

So are healthy babies...so everyone pays for it.

    Pretty simply concept.

You think biden can really help?? Not a chance.

  • josephlawrence43 Nov 13, 7:57 p.m.

While that's unfortunate, the upside is 14% of the country will be able to GET insurance they didn't have before at all. junkmail:

And pray tell, in your infinite wisdom, what do I at age 67 need with maternity insurance, or birth control? Kinda sorta past that time there friend. And why should I have to pay for dental and eye exams for children under 12, when my youngest child is 30?? Spin it all you will--it still sucks..

Hey Biden! Now is a good time to promote obamacare!

  • jdupree Nov 13, 6:14 p.m.

Biden will suck the air out of the room. Only die hard Democrats will be excited and they would support Hagen anyway. Seems like a waste of time and energy. I would not cross the street to hear him speak and tune him out when he is on TV. I find him obnoxious!
