Voter Registration up in Wake

Raleigh, N.C. — Voter registration is up in Wake County amid a flurry of activity by presidential candidates in North Carolina ahead of the May 6 primary.
In 2008, the Wake County Board of Elections has added 11,774 people to the voter rolls – including 6,640 in March alone.
Elections officials also processed 5,070 changes to individuals' voter registrations in March.
Statewide, more than 100,525 people registered to vote in January and February 2008 – approximately 185 percent more new voters than registered in the same two months before the 2004 presidential election.
Citizens have until April 11 to register to vote or to make changes to their registration, including their party affiliation and address.
One-stop voting begins April 17, and absentee ballots must be received by 5 p.m. May 5.
