WRAL's annual drive to provide warmth to needy families kicks off before Thanksgiving. Coats for the Children accepts monetary donations, new toys and coats, gloves and hats in good shape through Dec. 31.

On Monday, volunteers completed the circle, sorting the donated items at a Salvation Army event.

The Salvation Army then distributes the winter wear through vouchers redeemable at its Family Store.

The 2016 fundraiser yielded $150,268 along with thousands of clothing items.
