Visitation, memorial canceled for slain Durham priest
Visitation and a memorial service for a Durham priest killed last week have been canceled, his family said.

"Our hearts are saddened by the tragic and unexpected death of the Rev. Kent Hinkson," his family said in a statement. "This is a time when his family is dealing with overwhelming grief and trying to make sense of the events of the last ten days since his disappearance and death. Kent’s death has been a highly public matter, and because of this, the family has elected to grieve together privately and quietly at a family service."
The visitation and memorial service were planned for Friday and Saturday, respectively, at All Saints Church, where Hinkson led Bible studies and pastoral care for those who couldn’t get to church.
Hinkson, 71, went missing Aug. 4 after leaving home to run errands. His disappearance prompted an exhaustive search and an appeal by his family, friends and parishioners at All Saints Church.
His body was found Sunday in Eno River State Park.
Matthew Reed, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder in the case.
