Sandy sends steady snowfall to western NC

Gov. Beverly Perdue added 24 mountain counties to the declaration of emergency she issued Friday for the eastern third of the state, saying western North Carolina could receive 4 to 8 inches of snow from Sandy as the storm collided over the mid-Atlantic states with a cold front and exploded into a major winter storm.
