Victim was in car when explosive went off
In a 911 call Thursday afternoon, a man described the small explosion in his car that triggered hours of police activity, caused homes to be evacuated and detoured traffic in southwest Wake County.
Posted — Updated"I had vandalization to my car. I guess you could say attempted murder, I don’t know,” Chase Curtis Farmer told dispatchers.
In the course of their investigation, authorities determined that a small package in the man's SUV was intentionally placed there.
The explosion was so minor that the man suffered no serious injuries.
“I’m fine," he told the dispatcher. "I just bruised my toe. I mean, it went off so hard, my toe hit the bottom of my dashboard."
Stefan Mroczkiewicz, who lives in the subdivision, said the sound shook his house. "I looked out the window and saw there was a huge puff of smoke going down the street. I just assumed his car blew up."
"We want the public to know there's no public safety issue and we do believe it's an isolated incident," he said.
