New Hill, N.C. — Authorities have released the name of a person killed in a wreck involving a dump truck on U.S. Highway 1 in southwestern Wake County Friday afternoon.
State troopers responded to the accident near the New Hill-Olive Chapel Road exit around 12:40 p.m.
Troopers said when a green Chevrolet Malibu came off U.S. Highway 1, its driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The dump truck slammed into the vehicle.
A passenger in the car, Freddie Rogers, 46, of Raleigh, was killed. Driver Darlene McGuffin, 49, of Raleigh, was transported to WakeMed. She remained in critical condition Saturday night.
The dump truck driver was not injured. Charges could be filed against McGuffin, troopers said.
