Vet's ride reaches NYC destination

Conner, a veteran of the U.S. Army, set out on the ride this spring with very little training and almost no support, but with the inspiration of the sacrifice made by a fellow soldier.

When he learned the story of Sgt. First Class Alwyn Cashe, Conner became convinced that the man deserves the Medal of Honor and plans to use his personal effort to draw attention to that cause.

“Yet he went back to a burning vehicle,” Conner said.

Cashe saved fellow soldiers, pulling them from the fire. With each trip, Cashe himself was burned over and over. He later died from his injuries.

Cashe was awarded the Silver Star for Valor, but Conner thinks he deserves more. He and others have made the case for Cashe's Medal of Honor, but Conner says it remains tied up in bureaucracy.
