BURLINGTON, Vt. — The Vermont Student Assistance Corp. is getting a $2.8 million federal grant to encourage young Vermonters to seek higher education.
The six-year grant for the Talent Search program will be used for academic skill-building, study skills, class advising and tutoring. VSAC counselors also help students prepare for standardized tests.
The Talent Search program is present in 40 middle and high schools across Vermont and it serves more than 1,000 students each year. Last year, 83 percent of students who participated in the program continued their educations after high school.
The grant was announced Monday by Vermont's congressional delegation.
VSAC has been participating in the Talent Search program since 1969.
