Vehicle break-ins on the rise in Wayne County
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are warning residents to lock their cars after a recent rash of vehicle break-ins.
Posted — UpdatedThe sheriff’s office did not provide numbers but said the break-ins over the past several weeks have occurred in different locations throughout the county during nighttime hours.
Thieves have targeted unlocked vehicles parked in residential areas, Sheriff Larry Pierce said.
“It is a shame that you cannot leave your vehicle unlocked in your own yard, but that is reality in today’s time,” he said in a release Monday. “Please lock your doors, no matter where you park.”
Pierce also advised residents not to keep valuables in vehicles, especially not in plain sight.
