Vandals Strike Wake School Bus Lot Again

Posted May 17, 2007

— Almost two dozen school buses were found vandalized Thursday morning, delaying the trip to school for hundreds of students, authorities said.

The fan belts on 23 buses had been partially or completely cut, said Bill Poston, spokesman for the Wake County school system. Some of the buses were in the middle of their routes when the belts failed, he said.

Mechanics were quickly dispatched to repair the broken-down buses, and spare buses also were sent out to help transport students to school. The vandalism caused about $1,500 in damage, authorities said.

Students arrived about an hour late at Fuquay-Varina High School, Fuquay-Varina Middle School, West Lake Middle School, West Lake Elementary School and Willow Springs Elementary School, according to Carol McDowell, the bus coordinator for the Fuquay-Varina area.

The school district and Fuquay-Varina police are investigating the case, which is the second incidence of vandalism to school buses in the area in recent weeks.

Strict prosecution, heavy fines, and a lot of enforced community service, and a very public airing of all of these terms would go a long way towards deterring future problems also

Some people just do not understand sarcasm. One thing about this story that we can assume is that the area needs to be policed much better than it has been. I think that's obvious. However, we all know that it might cost more than the cost of repair and the inconvenience to the students involved.
A good camera and recorder would cost $2,000.00 and a security officer would cost $700.00 a week.

Run 4-phase through the fence around the bus parking lot. Get a few Dobermans inside the fence and feed them just enough to stay alive. Either one or both of these solutions together will solve your problem.

What would qualify as 'safe vandalism?' Damage done is damage done.

panther I agree. casper, they want to teach kids how to have safe sex, why NOT safe vandalism? Seems like the perfect band aid solution to me.

When the individual/s are caught they ought to make them pay back every red cent and punish them by having them wash and wax every bus in the school system twice. Give them something to spend their idol time constructively
