HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — Vandals clogged a sewage pipe in Holly Springs and stole manhole covers sometime in the past week, town officials said Friday.

More than 86,000 gallons of sewage overflowed from the system onto the ground and into a stream, according to Joni Powell, Holly Springs town clerk.

Powell said police were investigating the vandalism, which included damage to the ladders leading into the manholes and rocks and other debris thrown into the holes, blocking the sewage lines.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is urged to call Holly Springs police at 919-557-9111.
