Vandalism renames Pinecrest High School

Posted April 16, 2010

— An act of vandalism renamed Pinecrest High School in Moore County.

Assistant Principal Herb Hanson said that someone broke and removed the "P," "E" and "R" signs that spell out the school's name on the front wall. The remaining large, green letters spell out "Incest High School."

Hanson said that Pinecrest High has a tradition and established guidelines for senior pranks, but this one went too far. He said the missing letters will cost $100 each to replace.

The school is investigating the incident as an act of vandalism, Hanson said.

Approximately 2,200 students attend Pinecrest High, which is on Voit Gilmore Lane in Southern Pines.

Funny! Very good prank. But hope they return the letters now that they've had their laugh.

As a Student of this school, I think it is creative....COMPARED TO LAST YEARS which sucked! With respect to the older generations, who think the younger generation is headed in the wrong direction....YOU RAISED US. We as teenagers just see a bit more comic relief in different ideas. Live life....why be so uptight about things. Yes there should be standards, but have fun with life....you only live it once. I graduated in early January, Straight A student, I have never gotten into any trouble whether it be with the law, or at school. Oh and im prolonging my education in health!!!! So I do not think that this generation is going downhill. Thank you to Pinecrest who raised the current and past students, the staff has always done a wonderful job in making each child in to a young adult!!! There is no crime here!!

ksh33 - "...stop complaining about how the govt. is waisting our money..."

I think the governement is WASTING money on administrators like this. The students show they are smarter than the teachers since they at least can spell correctly...

This is just a prank. Why is it so difficult to distinguish between prank and true crime?

"No wonder society is what it is today - going to h3ll in a handbasket."

Actually, stories like these remind me of tales my dad tells about the pranks they pulled in school back in the 50s- 60s. One class took apart an airplane and put it together on the roof of the school.

This is truly a statement on our public school system and the current generation being educated by it.

I mean, they could've easily taken the "P", "E" and "R" removed from the word "PINECREST", rearranged some of the letters in "VOIT GILMORE", and had "PERVERT ADMINISTRATION BUILDING" down below.

What a pure lack of creativity and just plain laziness...kids these days :(
