Van sought in fatal Smithfield hit-and-run

Smithfield police are looking for a work van they believe struck and killed a 50-year-old man early Saturday.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield police are looking for a work van they believe struck and killed a 50-year-old man early Saturday.

Jose Hernandez Galindo's body was found in a ditch along South Brightleaf Boulevard, near Rainbow Lane, around 9:50 a.m. Saturday. Police believe he was hit by a vehicle between 1 a.m. and 9:50 a.m.

Police are looking for a 1996-2002 Chevrolet Express or GMC Savannah van in a model range from 1500 to 3500. The van is missing its driver's side mirror and might have damage on the driver's side.
