Urban Ministries seeks donations of clean, empty baby food jars

To complete a service project, the nonprofit needs donations of clean, empty baby food jars with lids.

Jordan Hewitt of Urban Ministries of Wake County shared a post on Go Ask Mom's Facebook's page about the nonprofit's need for baby food jars.

I checked in with Hewitt to see exactly what they needed and wanted to share it with you. I'm sure there are plenty of parents reading this who have more than a few of these on their hands each week!

Hewitt tells me they are working to collect a large number of clean, empty baby food jars with lids for a service project next month, part of Activate Good's 9/11 Day of Service (which is kid friendly).

Urban Ministries has participated in the event in the past. Last year, volunteers built a flu kit for clients in the group's Open Door Clinic; wrote encouraging letters to the women at the Helen Wright Center for Women; and made friendship soup for the food pantry. Participants also bring non-perishable food to fill a truck to feed those who are crisis.

This year, in addition to similar projects, the group also will be making hot cocoa snowmen for Christmas. The baby food jars will serve as the body of the snowmen, Hewitt tells me.

"We will also look to get the cocoa, mini marshmallows and peppermints donated as well, but I figured the baby jars would be the hardest to collect," she tells me in an email.
