The two Lowes Foods stores that are closing in Cary and Raleigh have marked down inventory to 75% off as of today, September 12.  The remaining inventory in these two stores will be 75% off through September 14, 2013 when they will both close.  According to Meredith below, the stores are closing at 6:00 pm now.

The store locations include:

I just left the Cary store at 10:15am and they had a lot of Ball canning products (lids, gels but no jars) and cake/cookie decorating items (icings, candles, cupcake wrappers, etc). I also got a whole bunch of canned dog food and cards. There was still quite a lot of ice cream left as well but that's really about it. All of the Health and Beauty aids that are left are generic brands.

DianeNC, the LF on Capital was my favorite location because it was so big! It's probably the biggest one I've ever been in and they carried a lot more products than other locations. Plus their staff was amazing! I really am going to miss having a LF 2 minutes form my house.

I'm guessing the Lowes Foods in Raleigh that's closing must be larger than the one in Cary, as it sounds like they had much more left this afternoon than the one in Cary, most definitely.

I didn't see any light bulbs, batteries, etc., in Cary and they've been out of cosmetics since the store's 40% markdown. I'm guessing word must have got out about the 75% final markdown today, because there was a big difference between what was left around noon time and when I was there earlier this evening.

Thanks, again, Faye for giving us a heads-up on this final markdown. I still can't believe the many items I got for free during my midday trip, due to the combination of the 75% markdown and the coupons I had.

Now I need to switch my focus to HT's Triple Coupons! :)

That's interesting, Meredith. The LF employee who e-mailed me about the 75% off indicated that both stores would be open until 8 pm. Thanks for the update.

Also, starting tomorrow, 9/13/13, they will close at 6pm! I doubt they will even be open that long tomorrow with how little is left, but their official hours are 8am-6pm beginning tomorrow.

I just left the store on Milbrook. There is not much left but here is what they have still have "a lot" of (more than 10):

    -Light Bulbs

    -Cake Icing and Decorations

    -Cheap Kid Toys

    -Makeup (assortment)

-Hair Color (lots of brands left)

    -Foot Care

-Baby Formula (there was a lot left)

-Shampoo and Hair Spray (maybe 20 bottles)

    -Vitamins (a lot!)

-Medicines (Advil, NyQuil, etc... a lot left that I'm sure would match up well with coupons but this was the most crowded aisle in the store and I didn't want to fight the crowd)

That is about it except for a few odds and ends. Most of the aisles are still in the store but they are almost bare. You really do have to check each aisle but only the first 6 feet of the aisle as the employees seem to be doing a good job of condensing the items.

The fridge and freezer sections are completely empty and closed as well as the produce half of the store.

diana123 - I just got back from LF Capital - Pet supplies pretty much wiped out, with the exception of a few kitty toys & food bowls. Anything edible was really slim pickings, they did have some of those tubes of colored frosting, birthday candles, sprinkles for sugar cookies. Also had stuff like lint rollers, lightbulbs, odd batteries. Olive oil - nada - but a few jars of stuffed olives - wayyy too pricey even w/ discount (in my opinion). Health & Beauty - had hair dyes, little bit left in cosmetics, some medicines (like Delsym), some GUD items, and pretty decent collection of birthday greeting cards (you may have to hunt & peck for matching envelopes, though).

I will miss having this store...at least I still have the Harvest Plaza and Forestville Rd Lowes :)

Thanks Diane. I mostly bought greeting cards at 75% off, which still ran into quite a bit of money spent, and may not use. Then I got into gadgets and things like packing or shipping tape, labels, and pet toys, etc.

itsmyownopinion - according to the management in the Cary store that's closing, there weren't going to be any further markdowns (after 40%), so don't beat yourself up over not waiting. It seems like they pretty much just winged it with this store closing. I agree with you, though, that even after the 40% markdown, not everything was a great deal (since their prices were so high to begin with). I tried to just pick up things that were on sale and/or I had a coupon for that I could then take off the additional 40%. Since 80 to 90 percent of the stores products were already gone by the time they decided to go to 75% today, it's probably best you didn't wait.

  • itsmyownopinion Sep 12, 2013

I wish I had waited. What I bought @ 40% off I could have probably gotten somewhere else as a regular price.
Incidentally, the clerk who rang up my purchase didn't give me time to get my Lowe's card out, used theirs instead, so if it would have been of any value to me, that was gone and I was annoyed.
