UPDATE: 2 Bakersfield police officers shot, suspect dead in South Bakersfield shooting

Bakersfield police were called to a home for a peace disturbance just after 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night in South Bakersfield.

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA — Bakersfield police were called to a home for a peace disturbance just after 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night in South Bakersfield.

Officers were told that a man was armed with a gun inside the home on Pacheco Road near Kenny Street.

Upon arrival two police officers, identified as Matthew Johnson and Joshua Deutinger, were shot in the upper torso. They have since been taken to the hospital and listed in stable condition.

The suspect did die at the scene.

The identity of that person has not yet been released.

Both Johnson and Deutinger will be placed on routine administrative leave once released from the hospital.
