I wanted to highlight a couple of races that are coming up next month that offer some activities for kids too.
The first is the third annual Jack and Jill Ran Up the Hill 5K and 1-mile Fun Run on Sept. 14. It starts at 8 a.m. at 1050 Town Hall Dr. in Morrisville. The Raleigh/Wake Chapter of Jack and Jill of America is the sponsor.
The event offers chip timing for serious runners, but you can race, run or walk. After the 5K, there will be a one-mile Fun Run for kids 12 years and younger. The event also includes a Zumba demonstration, kids corner with a bounce house, face painting and other fun and healthy activities.
All profits from the race will go to CONCERT, an academic enrichment program for at-risk students in high poverty, east Raleigh schools, and the Jack and Jill Foundation.
There is $30 for early registration before Sept. 1. Then it goes up to $35 up to and including race day. The fee for the Fun Run is $5 with no late fee. For more information and to register in advance, go to www.runnc.com.
And the Midtown Race Series will host a 5K, 10K and half marathon starting at 7 a.m., Sept. 21, at North Hills in Raleigh. The course primarily runs along the Crabtree Creek Greenway. Every participant will be entered for a chance to win a new Lexus convertible.
If that isn't exciting enough, te event also includes a Kid Zone with face painting, balloon animals, a bounce house and a 20-foot inflatable slide. Go to the series' website for all the information and to register.
