United to offer RDU-San Francisco flight

Posted April 11, 2012

— United Airlines announced Wednesday that will begin offering daily nonstop service between Raleigh-Durham International Airport and San Francisco on Aug. 15.

“Businesses, particularly the life sciences and technology sectors, have been very vocal about the importance of this flight to their ongoing success and ability to grow and compete," RDU Director Michael Landguth said in a statement. "The region’s economic developers have worked closely with RDU to illustrate the strength of our market and the growing demand for service to the West Coast and Asia.”

Landguth said 400 passengers head to the Bay Area every day from the Triangle, with scores more connecting through the West Coast to destinations in Asia.

The outbound flights on a 218-seat Boeing 737 will leave RDU at 7 a.m., arriving at San Francisco at 9:50 a.m. Pacific Time, which gives passengers time to connect to late-morning flights headed to Asia.

The inbound flights depart San Francisco at 1 p.m. Pacific time and arrive at RDU at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

I wish they were starting this sooner. I'm headed that way this summer and would gladly pay more for non-stop service.

"I'd rather ride Greyhound to SFO than fly United...ugh." - Road-wearier

Then you just go and do that. It's a mere 3day trip with 5 connections on Greyhound for $291.

I'd rather ride Greyhound to SFO than fly United...ugh.

Seriously, I'll make connections at DFW or ORD first....

I am a travel agent, and this is great news! We had heard the news a bit earlier than this press release. Great for folks going to San Fran (of course) as well as Asia, Hawaii, and Tahiti as well as Australia and New Zealand. Lets just hope it gets the support United will need to keep it long term. We have seen many of these flights come and go due to lack of people in the seats!

Boo hoo. By the way, "Like I care?" isn't a question. Couldn't have spent too much on that diploma. "Worst mistake I ever did" Hahahaha.

Non-stop flights to SF sound awesome! Can't wait.
