Edgecombe boy's uncle pleads guilty to shooting death
A Franklinton man pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the December shooting death of his 12-year-old nephew while they were on a hunting trip in Wake Forest.

Jason Matthews Parker, 30, received a suspended sentence of 13 to 25 months and was placed on a year of supervised probation followed by a year of unsupervised probation. He was also ordered to pay court costs.
Authorities say James Lee Parker, of Tarboro, was deer hunting with his father, 16-year-old cousin and Jason Parker on the morning of Dec. 28 when Jason Parker shot him with a 12-gauge shotgun.
James was about 100 yards in the woods when the shooting occurred.
Jason Parker also pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful obtaining of a hunting license.
As part of his sentence, he was also ordered to serve one day in jail but was credited for time served.
He also is prohibited to hunt or obtain a hunting license while on probation.
James Parker was a sixth-grader at Phillips Middle School in Edgecombe County. His family had said he was an avid hunter since he was 4.
