Uncle charged in death of nephew, 12, shot while hunting
The uncle of a 12-year-old Tarboro boy who was fatally shot during a hunting trip last month has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, authorities said Friday.

Jason Matthews Parker, 30, of Franklinton, was also charged with obtaining a hunting license under false pretense.
Parker was hunting deer Dec. 28 with 12-year-old James Lee Parker, the boy's cousin and the boy's father. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission officers initially said the shooting was an accident.
Following an investigation, authorities decided to file the charges. Parker surrendered at the Wake County Detention Center on Thursday evening.
Geoff Cantrell, spokesman for the commission, said Jason Parker had not taken a mandatory free hunting education course.
“Hunting education instructors stress point a firearm in a safe direction at all times. That is rule one,” Cantrell said in a statement.
