UNC withholding comment on state budget
University of North Carolina officials bit their tongues Wednesday when asked about the $20.6 billion state budget approved by lawmakers.

The spending plan, which still must be approved by Gov. Pat McCrory, calls for state funding to the 17-campus system to be cut by $66 million in the coming year.
UNC President Tom Ross isn't commenting on the budget, according to a spokeswoman.
UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol Folt said she and her Board of Trustees would have more information Thursday on how the cuts would affect their campus.
In the past five years, UNC-Chapel Hill has seen its state funding cut by $146.8 million, or more than 25 percent, officials said.
The budget calls for increasing tuition on out-of-state students by up to 12.3 percent to help recoup some of the lost state funding, but UNC-Chapel Hill student body president Christy Lambden said campuses won't get that money.
"All of that extra revenue will be returning to the state and not come to Carolina, which means that we cannot put any of that tuition revenue toward financial aid," said Lambden, who also is a member of the Board of Trustees.
