UNC professor dies at Chapel Hill home

Joanne Roberts was a senior scientist at the university's Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute and a professor of speech and hearing sciences and a research professor of pediatrics.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill died over the weekend at her Chapel Hill home, a university spokeswoman said Monday.

Joanne Roberts, 58, of 207 Stagecoach Road, was a senior scientist at the university's Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute and a professor of speech and hearing sciences and a research professor of pediatrics.

It was unclear how Roberts died, but Chapel Hill police said they do not believe her death was suspicious.

According to the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, Roberts wrote more than 125 articles and book chapters on her area of expertise and was well known for her research.
