CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — An adjunct assistant professor at the University of North Carolina is on a most-wanted list in Alabama, authorities said.

Troy Adair, who teaches at the Kenan-Flagler Business School, is wanted in Shelby County, Ala., on a domestic violence charge, authorities said.

UNC officials said Adair wasn't subject to a university policy calling for criminal background checks on new employees because he was already employed when the policy took effect in July.

Officials also said that campus police aren't required to arrest Adair on the outstanding warrant because of the charge involved.

Adair said he wasn't aware of the warrant.
