CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Campus police at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill alerted students Tuesday of an armed robbery that happened near campus over the weekend.

The email alert from the UNC Department of Public Safety said a student was in downtown Chapel Hill near the northern part of campus early Sunday morning when he was struck in the face with an object and robbed of a small amount of cash.

Authorities, however, did not have a description of the assailant.

"Police do not believe that this reflects an ongoing threat to the campus at this time," the email alert said.

UNC police are asking anyone with information that might assist in their investigation to call investigators at 919-962-8176.
