— The University of North Carolina Board of Governors is scheduled to meet Friday afternoon to elect a new chancellor at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Chancellor Holden Thorp announced in September that he would step down at the end of the 2012-13 school year. In February, he accepted the position of provost at Washington University in St. Louis, and he plans to start that position on July 1.

No information has been released on possible chancellor candidates.

Thorp has headed UNC-Chapel Hill since July 2008. His tenure has been marked by scandal, including an NCAA investigation of the Tar Heel football program and internal probes of possible academic fraud in one department and questionable travel expenses by the school's top fundraiser.

The outgoing BOG is rushing this process so that they can put in another liberal, Pro-UNC yuppie before they get kicked to the curb. Business as usual in NC. Democrats showing they won't be going quietly.

Mark Emmert would be appropriate, in exchange for all the favors he has done them lately.

Thorpe was about as inept and incompetent as anyone they could have chosen. And the board continued to support him. He was lucky he could find a job.

Hopefully they will put an end to the cheating, cover ups, and sending rape cases to the honor court.
